A home is where a country’s systems meet.

When injury changed our household’s income, we kept communicating, sought support, and worked to resolve the rent we owed. Yet the threat of a hearing kept arriving at the same door where four children needed steadiness.

Today I’m sharing DOMUS: The Home Before the Hearing, an essay drawn from that experience, alongside a Housing Continuity Pathway for New Zealand.

The proposal is a voluntary route that brings tenants, owners, support services and a named navigator into a workable plan early. It protects both parties’ rights while asking a simple question: can we help resolve a tenancy problem before it becomes the loss of a home?

Care for the property. Respect for the home.

I’m also inviting builders with experience in tenancy, housing support, privacy, product design and software to help shape DOMUS. We document the home. We do not document the household.
